From now on, lets skip the snacks!
Snacks have been a synonym for a healthy lifestyle for decades. Most of us have heard the suggestions to eat 3 main meals and 2 snacks a day. I admit, I used to follow the same routine for years. All of my role models at that time used to eat following this pattern.
It didn´t really fit with my lifestyle (probably didn´t fit with my role models lifestyle either).
My daily meal plan used to look like this:
- 7:30 AM Breakfast
- 11:00 AM Snack nr 1
- 1:30 PM Lunch
- 6 PM Snack nr 2
- 10 PM Supper
This rhythm was quite uncomfortable. It is in our nature to get rid of the things we don´t like.
Doesn´t fit our daily rhythm
My lunchtime was pretty much carved in stone – 12 PM-1 PM. By then I had just finished my first snack and didn´t feel like eating again so soon. At that time all of the big names in the fitness industry were sure that eating frequently (min. 5 meals a day) speeds up your metabolism. And I had my goals, so I desperately tried keeping up the pace.
Eating frequently doesn´t speed up your metabolism
Latest scientific research has found that eating 5 times a day is not better than eating 4 times a day in terms of making your metabolism run faster. The total daily amount is much more important.
If your caloric intake is under control, you will lose weight no matter if you eat 4 or 5 times a day.
Attention – here comes your new daily meal plan.
- 7.30 AM Breakfast
- 12 PM Lunch
- 6 PM Supper
- 10 PM Late supper
